Signs you need a Detox and Tips to Help!

Traveling can take a toll on our bodies. We deal with multiple time zones which can offset sleep and our workout routines. Eating not so nutritious options or indulging on vacation can throw our diets out of wack. Drinking at business meetings or hitting the bars out on the town can eventually wreak havoc on our skin, especially when we don’t get enough water. Flying from city to city is tiresome in itself let alone trying to keep up with what our body needs to function properly! 

Feeling bloated, constantly fatigued, constipated, and seeing a flare up in acne are all signs that your body is saying it’s time for a detox! 

For us, we notice if our body needs a detox when we binge on processed foods that we normally don’t have as part of our daily diets such as greasy fast foods, sugary sweets or more than a few drinks at a party or night out on the town. And hey, there’s no wrong in hitting the drive thru for a quick treat sometimes or ordering a box of pizza with your pals, and there’s nothing like a fun event where the drinks are flowing and you’re just out to have a good time! By all means, enjoy yourself!

We’re not here to tell you don’t have fun or not to treat yourself, but when the party is over, how can you tell your body is over it? We put a list of together of tell all signs that your body is probably saying it needs to detox and paired each sign with how you can hit the reset button! 

Bloat – No matter what you seem to eat, you feel constantly bloated. Maybe you enjoyed too many sugary cocktails during your vacation or binged on too many tasty finger foods at a work party. Eating too much processed food and not getting in proper exercise with enough water, especially when you’ve been traveling can cause a build up of waste in our colon! Bleh. 

*What to do? Fill your body up with non processed and nutrient dense foods including fibrous foods to cleanse your system and get your digestion back on track. Add green tea to your morning routine or drink a cup of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice. This will help to flush out any waste. 

Skin Issues – you notice a brand new pimple on your face and suddenly another and another and another where your skin starts to look like a game of connect the dots! Ahh! Your skin is your body’s largest organ. When we start to notice our face becoming super unclear all of a sudden, and our trusted facial care products seem to be working against us, usually that’s a clear sign that our body needs to get rid of unwanted toxins from the inside meaning our gut probably needs a cleanse. 

*What to do?  We said it before, so it’s no surprise when we say drink plenty of water (A fact you can def apply it to all our tips).  Again, drinking water helps to flush out toxins, including bacteria and dirt. You can even infuse you water with cucumber and mint, lemons and mint or lime and ginger or drink a detoxifying juice made of all fresh and natural fruits and veggies. Avoid certain foods (such as sugars or dairy) that can cause a spike in insulin levels/affect your hormones which could worsen acne symptoms. Add a detoxifying mask to your skin care routine to rid your skin of dirt and impurities and exfoliate 1-2x a week to help “purge“ your skin of any unwanted toxins. 

Constant Fatigue/ Headaches – feeling sluggish or overly tired even after you just slept is another sign your body is letting you know your energy levels are offset. Not drinking enough water can make you feel dehydrated and cause a headache, yet another sign you may need to detox if it’s not caused by stress, hunger or lack of sleep. 

*What to do? Drink plenty of water through out the day to replenish your body with the H2O it’s lacking. Stick to foods that aren’t full of refined sugars or empty carbs that will leave you feeling unenergized or have you feel like you’re crashing later (again think nutrient dense). Do get a proper amount of sleep averaging eight hours a day on the regular to get your body back in synch! 

Constipated/Feeling Sluggish – when you can’t go to the bathroom regularly, this is almost a for sure sign that a detox is in order. Along with bloat, feeling constipated can make you feel sluggish. Again, your digestive system is probably backed up with unwanted toxins that can block your system from functioning properly and cause stomach distention. 

*What to do? Surely you can guess by this point, that eating nutrient dense foods and drinking plenty of water will help cleanse your system, but when you’re feeling constipated there are a few more helpful tips. Add a probiotic to your daily diet to help promote a healthy gut. Sip on tea that will help improve your digestion such as peppermint, ginger, green tea or dandelion root. 

If you ever notice any of these signs going on with you again it may be your body’s way of saying it needs a detox! We hope that these tips and tricks help! Once you get back into a healthier routine – aka a more nutritious diet, an adequate amount of exercise along with a proper amount of sleep on the daily and drinking plenty of water, you should feel more energized and your body will thank you!
